Dry-fog treatment disperses a fine antimicrobial mist through an enclosed space, an attic, crawl space, or sealed room, reaching surfaces and air cavities that a cloth or spray bottle cannot access. It is effective at reducing airborne spore counts and treating exposed wood, duct vents, and stud bays after visible mold has been removed. In Baton Rouge’s humid climate, it is often used after water intrusion events in crawl spaces and attics where full material removal is not required.
Fogging has clear limits. It does not penetrate drywall, saturated insulation, or other porous materials where mold colonies grow below the surface. Applying fog to a space that still has elevated moisture readings will not stop regrowth, the antimicrobial treatment dissipates and the humidity sustains the mold. Moisture meter readings must confirm the space is dry before fogging is scheduled.
In a full remediation sequence, dry-fog treatment follows containment setup, HEPA air scrubbing, and removal of any unsalvageable materials. A post-treatment air test then confirms that spore counts have dropped to acceptable levels. Used in that order, fogging adds a layer of surface and airborne treatment that supports the overall result, it is not a shortcut around the steps that come before it.
