Dry-Fog Mold Treatment Questions

Dry fog reduces airborne spores and treats exposed surfaces in a sealed space. It does not fix the moisture source or remove mold deep inside porous materials. It works best as one step in a larger remediation plan, not as the whole plan.

Not when the prep work is done correctly. HEPA vacuuming removes loose deposits first, and a moisture meter reading confirms the space is dry. If the leak or humidity source is still active, mold will return, fogging does not change that.

The space needs a moisture inspection, HEPA vacuuming to remove loose spore deposits, removal of any heavily contaminated porous materials, and sealing of the room so fog concentration stays effective. Skipping these steps reduces how well the treatment holds.

In Baton Rouge’s humidity, mold spreads quickly into adjacent materials. Delaying means more drywall or insulation may need removal, the scope grows, and spore counts in the air stay elevated. Treating early keeps the job smaller.

Consumer foggers do not produce particles small enough to reach wall cavities, and they are not paired with HEPA prep or post-treatment air testing. Without those steps, there is no way to confirm the treatment worked or that spore counts have actually dropped.

A post-treatment air test measures spore counts before and after. That result, combined with a follow-up moisture meter reading, confirms whether the treatment held. Visual inspection alone is not a reliable measure of whether fogging was effective.
